Local climate
- USDA hardiness zone
- 8a (10°F to 15°F)
- Typical temperature range
- Average monthly temperatures in Batesburg-Leesville run from a 35°F low in January to a 90°F high in July, cooler at both ends than Columbia.
- Terrain
- Batesburg-Leesville sits at about 653 feet on the Ridge that separates the Saluda and Edisto river basins, in the western corner of Lexington County. The town was formed in 1992 when Batesburg and Leesville merged, and locals still use both names for the two halves.
- Growing challenge
- Sandhills soil here drains fast and holds few nutrients, so fertilizer and water both move through quickly. That is a soil question rather than a weather one, and it is the thing worth planning around on most lots.
