In the 7-Step Program

Weed Control

Pre-emergent stops most weeds before they start. This covers the ones that get through anyway. We treat them on the same scheduled visits, so there is no separate charge for dealing with them.

Timing matters more than product

Weed Control in the 7-Step Program.

The same weed can be easy to kill one week and stubborn the next. We look at what is growing, how far along it is, and what the weather is doing, then pick the product to match.

Treats active weeds

Post-emergent products target weeds that have broken through the soil and started growing.

Matches weed and grass

The product label must cover both the target weed and the turf species.

Continues through the year

Scheduled visits give GLS Turf more than one opportunity to address changing weed pressure.

How we work

We check the lawn before we treat it.

  1. 01

Identify the grass and the weed

Your grass type and the specific weed decide what can safely be used.

  2. 02

    Pick the right moment

How far along the weed is, and what the weather is doing, sets the timing.

  3. 03

Check it on the next visit

We look at what worked and treat anything new that has come up.

Questions

Common questions about this service.

Is weed control included, or billed separately?
Included. Treating weeds that are already up is part of the 7-Step Program, so there is no separate charge for it.
How long until the weeds die?
Most broadleaf weeds curl or discolor within a few days and break down over one to two weeks. Nutsedge and wild violet are stubborn and often take repeat applications across more than one visit. If something is still standing when your technician comes back, point it out.
Is it safe for my kids and my dog?
We use products chosen to be safe for kids and pets once the treated area has dried. Your technician leaves a sign in the yard and sends a text after the visit with anything specific to that day. If you have a particular concern, tell us before we come out.
Why not use a stronger product and be done with it?
Your grass sets the limit, not the weed. Centipede and St. Augustine are damaged by products Bermuda shrugs off. Whatever goes in the tank has to be labeled for both the weed and the turf, so we identify the grass before anything gets mixed.
It rained right after you sprayed. Did that ruin it?
Probably not. Most post-emergent products need a short window to absorb into the leaf, and after that rain stops mattering. If a storm hit within an hour of your visit, let the office know and we will check that area on the next one.
Will the weeds come back?
Some will. Weed seed blows in from neighboring yards, rides in on equipment, and sits dormant in your soil for years. The program is built around that: pre-emergent early to cut down what germinates, post-emergent through the season for what gets through. A thick, well-fed lawn crowds out most of the rest, and that is why fertilization runs on the same schedule.
