Insect & Grub Control

Thin or brown turf does not prove that insects are responsible. GLS Turf checks the affected area before recommending treatment.

Match treatment timing to the insect's life stage

When you actually need insect & grub control.

Lawn insects become vulnerable to treatment at different times. GLS Turf scouts for the pest before treating, so the timing matches the insect rather than the calendar.

Look for the pest

Turf damage alone cannot identify the insect responsible.

Match pest and turf

Treatment choice depends on the insect, grass species, and site conditions.

Quote treatment separately

Insect and grub control is an add-on to the 7-Step Lawn Program.

How we work

We check the lawn before we treat it.

  1. 01

    Inspect the damaged turf

The damage pattern and signs of insect activity help narrow the cause.

  2. 02

    Identify the likely pest

The pest and its life stage determine whether treatment makes sense.

  3. 03

    Explain the recommendation

If treatment is appropriate, GLS Turf provides a separate recommendation and quote.

Questions

Common questions about this service.

Is insect and grub control in the 7-Step Program?
No, it is quoted separately. We check for insect damage on every program visit and will flag it if we find it.
How do I know whether I have grubs?
Pull on a thin patch. Grub-damaged turf lifts like carpet, because the roots holding it down have been eaten. Then cut a square foot of sod about four inches deep and count what is underneath. A few grubs are normal in any lawn. A concentration in one spot, plus turf that peels up, is the real sign. Birds, moles, and armadillos tearing at the yard are a second clue.
Can you treat grubs whenever I call?
Call any time and we will come look. Whether a treatment works depends on the stage the grubs are in. Young grubs feeding near the surface are the target. Large ones heading deeper to pupate are much harder to reach, and by then the root damage is done. Matching the application to the life stage is most of the job.
What about fire ants?
Fire ants are a separate conversation from grubs, with different products and different timing. Whether broadcast bait or mound treatment makes more sense depends on how many mounds you have and where they are. Tell us what you are seeing and we will quote it.
My lawn is thinning. Does that mean insects?
Not on its own. Drought, compaction, shade, a dull mower blade, and disease all thin turf in ways that look similar. We confirm insects by finding them, not by ruling other things out, so the first step is an inspection rather than a treatment.
Is it safe for kids and pets?
Once the treated area is dry, yes. Granular insect products also need to be watered in to reach the soil, so the text after your visit will tell you when to water and how much.
